Happy Thanksgiving Week:)

Greetings Everyone!!!! Hope all  of you had an amazing Thanksgiving I love you all so much and I am so grateful for you guys!! Thank you for all for emails and stuff throughout the week it always makes me so so happy. This week was so amazing and I love being here at the mtc :) It was also so so cool to be here at thanksgiving. Also now that thanksgiving is over it is officially the Christmas season and I am so happy because we can sing christmas hymns in class and stuff :)

 Tuesday
-we got to go to the temple after I emailed and it was amazing
-I taught sister ripley yoga for part of our exercise time and she like it!!
-we had a super good devotional and  Elder Ringwood talked about how God is in the details of our lives, he talked about how in second kings 4 it says "it fell on a day" instead of "it came to pass." He said that the phrase "it fell on a day" can relate to things in our own lives because our experiences are not just random and Gods hand is in our lives everyday. We then went up to our classroom and talked about moments in our life where "it fell on a day." and it was super amazing!!
Wednesday

-I realized that I have gotten a lot more used to calling people Elder and Sister because I want to call random people that even if they are not missionaries like the doctor and my teachers and the cafeteria workers.
-also if i see people walking by themselves that are not missionaries my first thought is where is their companion hahahah
-we got to do service and cleaned the bathrooms and it reminded me of my days working custodial at byu so that was super fun!!
-Elder Bowler accidentally called me Sister Buttercup and I made fun of him so much. Also Elder Caroll called my Sister Butterfly idk why it made me laugh so much :)
-Sister Banks and I went crazy during exercise time and we were playing four square and it was my first time ever playing it and I was super hyper and I did so good and made it to king that was pretty great and sister banks and I were luaghing so hard the whole time
-there was a power outage for about half the day and it was super dark everywhere in the buildings!! are room was pitch black and there was a bit of light in the hall so we were all laying in the hall and the stairwell together studying that was a pretty good memory

Thursday-THANKSGIVING
-Hau'oli La 'Ai Pelehu!! This means Happy turkey eating day in hawaiian
-I accidentally got my comp sick oops haha I feel so bad
-Sister cook from my byu ward gave me a krispy kreme doughnut for breakfast I was super happy!!
-We had a devotional in the morning and our district sang in the choir and I felt like a cheater because my voice was gone and I mouthed all the words, even though I couldn't sing it was super fun to be a part of a choir especially because we had a very special devotional
-WE GOT TO HEAR FROM ELDER UCHTDORF!!! I love him so so much and i would not have wanted to be anywhere else for thanksgiving!! As soon as he walked into the room the spirit was so strong!!
-since it was Thanksgiving he talked about gratitude one of my favorite things he said in the talk was "a grateful heart is the beginning of greatness"
-he talked about how gratitude can help us get through all of lifes trials and we can feel joy. We should be gracious for everything we have even the things that are hard. He said we should be grateful for all things!!
-he gave a great talk and it was amazing to be there
-after he spoke he waved at all of us and then started going around and shaning peoples hands!! I didnt have the chance to shake his hand but it was so good to see him walk around meeting all of these missionaries!! There was such an amazing spirit in the room. As he walked around there was soft music playing and one of the songs that was playing was I know my redeemer lives. Everyone started singing it super quiet and soft at first but got louder and then when it said "i know my redeemer lives" was when it was loudest and it was a really special moment and the spirit was so strong!! I looked around at the all the missionaries and just felt so much love for all them!!
-we had a delicious thanksgiving lunch and i got to eat my favorite food...ROLLS!!! Also to all of my former coworkers rolls is a food!!
-maelynn we watched the other side of heaven and it made me think of you!!
-i made a hand Turkey since its Thanksgiving tradition
-Thanksgiving dinner consisted of cinnamon rolls and chocolate truffles. I love being healthy haha
-also sister redding decorated our room for us!! It was super cute
-one of the best parts of the day is we got to do service :) it was so cool to be a part of such a big service project!! We got to help make meals for families who are in need and it was such a cool opportunity to help with that!! We packaged meals that could serve six people and filled up a bunch of boxes with them and when we finished a box someone would ring a bell and we all would cheer!! There was no better way to spend Thanksgiving also, Dad I was so happy when you emailed me about it because i was totally thinking of you the whole time and I was like awww my das would love this!! Wish you could have been there with me doing the service
-it snowed a bit on thanksgiving in the mountains!! And they looked so gorgeous with the snow and some red bushes and stuff that was totally a Thanksgiving miracle!!
-we has two more devotionals and then we got to go outside and look at christmas lights and they played Christmas music for us!!! What an incredible Thanksgiving day :)))

Friday
-a sister in my zone told me i kinda remind her of a hippie but in a good way and i was so happy hahah
-i had biscuts and gravy for breakfast which i love so much
-i went to the tec desk to see if they could fix me email for the eighth time and they called salt lake and apparently my email has to be fixed my engineers!!
-i started running for exercise time and it feels amazing

Saturday
-today i woke up and i knew it was gonna be the best day ever
-sister bradley gave me some glitter and that was super nice!! She calls it happy glitter and she just wears a bit on her afev and its so cute. She is from taylorsville and is going to hawaii visitors center for her mission!!
-it was stormy today (my favorite) and the Christmas lights were on in the morning and it was snowing!!
-during class we went and looked at one of the murals and read the scriptures that it came from and discussed it. We went to the brother of jared one with the 16 stones and it was such a cool mural and it was interesting applying it to us as missionaries

Sunday
-I read one of my favorite talks today by President Nelson!! Here is a quote from it
"the joy we feel has little to do with the circumstances of our lives and everything to do with the focus of our lives. When the focus of our lives is on God’s plan of salvation, which President Thomas S. Monson just taught us, and Jesus Christ and His gospel, we can feel joy regardless of what is happening—or not happening—in our lives. Joy comes from and because of Him. He is the source of all joy. We feel it at Christmastime when we sing, “Joy to the world, the Lord is come.” And we can feel it all year round. For Latter-day Saints, Jesus Christ is joy! That is why our missionaries leave their homes to preach His gospel. Their goal is not to increase the number of Church members. Rather, our missionaries teach and baptize to bring joy to the people of the world!"
-i love this quote so much and I love that I am a missionary so I can bring others closer to christ so they can feel that joy!!!
-I could sing at choir!!!! And we sang one of my favorite hymns "Have I Done any Good?" So I was happy about that

Monday
-"tissues are a tender mercy" -Elder Caroll
-our district used about ten boxes of tissues today so we are pretty thankful for them :)
-timpanogos is covered in snow and its so beautiful I love how it looks in the morning with the light on it ahhh so cool
-good scripture is 2 nephi 25:23
-i was so proud of myself because i ran four miles today!!!

If you read through this super long email thank you so much!!! I love you all bunches and never forget that God loves you and Jesus loves you!!! Hope everyone has a great week and if you have a spiritual though or just wanna tell me how your doing i would love to hear :) miss you guys!!

First Week!!!!!!

Hey everyone!!!! I survived my first week at the MTC hahaha so thankful. Its so crazy that I only got here a week ago because it feels like its been soooo long. I kinda feel like this is the only life I have ever lived and my life from a week ago just seems like a weird dream I had. But at the same time I miss everyone so much! Dude getting dropped off at the mtc is seriously like ripping off a band aid. you like have to run away from them and carry your bag up a bunch of stairs its awesome but felt so crazy!! So before I came to the mtc everyone told me I would either love it or hate it and I guess I have only been here for a week but I definitely. Honestly the most stressful part is trying to use my mission phone and email right now hahah I can not figure anything out about how to use technology. But the MTC is an awesome place and I am so happy to be here and be a missionary!!! there really is a special spirit here and I love that I have the chance to meet to many awesome people :)

So my district is mostly filled with elders going to salt lake south  and west and then there are two going to sacramento california!! and our teachers are so nice and there are two other sisters in our district and they are so awesome too and they are going to salt lake south. My companion is named Sister Ripley and my goal this week was to get her to smile at me and she didn't. She doesn't like to smile. and shes from Ontorio Canada and she sewed all of her own clothes for the mission and she is super smart and memorized the white handbook hahah. Gotta love her.
-since we had the dots on our tags everyone said "welcome to the MTC" and I loved it so much it made my day, my companion did not love it very much
-the other two girls in our district are seriously the sweetest people I have ever met in my whole life I love them so much!!! They are so loving and so funny and positive and I could not do it without them!!! Sister Banks and Sister Heldt are some of the greatest people ever.
-I got sick hahahha but its ok because its been getting so much better so fast I feel so blessed man
-On monday when people asked my name I kept accidentally saying Hannah by accident and then I would hurry and say sister butterfield it was so funny.
-i  love that i can go up and talk to pretty much everyone here and everyone is so nice!! Its literally like my dream come true because i have gotten to meet so many people

Thursday
-Had class and some workshops it was fun and I learned a ton!! I forgot my journal so I totally forgot most the stuff that happened this week but I will try my best to remember my journal next week
-i bought chocolate covered cinnamon bears it was so good
-our teachers both know spanish and so sometimes they teach us random phrases
-probably the best part of this day was studying the book of mormon with my district. the spirit was so strong and I really felt like it brought us closer together.

Friday
-Wow friday was awesome because I got to meet our district president!! He is the nicest guy ever and I am so thankful for him. Also him and his wife raised their kids in murray!! harper if ya read this is kinda by where you live they sold their house to the hortons I think. But they are awesome and I feel so blessed that President Redding is my district leader.
-I was super sick and had a sore throat on this day and was coughing so much in class and my teacher told me to go to the health clinic becuase I was not doing too hot but I went and i don't have strep or bronchitous like everyone thought so thats awesome hahhaha
-I had only been here for three days at this point but I am seeing so many miracles in my life because God has answered so many of my prayers and blessed me more than I could even imagine while I am here
-our teacher pranked us and told us that the missionary comitte was going to review our teaching ability and i totally believed it it was crazy!!!
-i got to play soccer with some sisters and it was soooooo much fun :)

Called to Serve

Dear Sister Hannah Mary Butterfield,

Congratulations on your call to serve!  We are excited about your arrival at the Provo Missionary Training Center next week and are grateful for your decision to serve the Lord.  We would like to share some important information about your stay at the MTC.

You should arrive for your training at the main MTC campus (2005 N 900 E).

This will be your MTC mailing address:

Sister Hannah Mary Butterfield

DEC04  MO-STL
2005 N 900 E Unit 365
Provo UT 84602

Please share this address with those who may want to write or send packages to you while you are in the MTC.

Also, please pay close attention to the following instructions:

1. Your service begins the day you check into the MTC.  Remind your family that complete separation from loved ones is part of the sacrifice that families and missionaries contribute to the work.  For this reason, you should ask your family and friends not to attempt to see or visit with you while you are at the MTC, not even during your temple walks or at other places near the MTC.

2. All missionary mail must come through the US Mail or commercial delivery services.  These services should not be used to send pizzas, fast foods, ice-cream, or any items that will spoil if they are not refrigerated within 24 hours.  Missionaries are not called out of class to receive packages, nor do they have access to a refrigerator.  For security reasons, we cannot accept any items delivered by hand.

3. Communication with family can be done through your missionary email account on your weekly Preparation Day. We cannot accept telephone calls for missionaries.

4. Families and friends should not visit missionaries as they depart to their field of labor, whether at the MTC or at the airport.

Please do not reply to this email.  If you need to communicate with the MTC, please call 801-422-2602 or email mtcinfodesk@mtc.byu.edu.
